The 2008 election saw Barack Obama “tweeting” marching orders to his minions. Yep his campaign was sending direct messages to iPhones, blackberries and droids. Meanwhile, conservatives didn’t have a clue.
Now fast forward to today. Obama turned out to be the socialist some of us knew he was, and conservatives discovered a whole new world on…Facebook. Websites like Drudge and The Blaze had
pages that you could “like” and get automatic news updates in your news feed. You could then “share” those posts with your friends and so on and so on. And before you know it, you’ve formed your own little network of conservatives ~ you have no idea who these people are, but you all have the same views and convictions.
THEN conservatives discovered the wonder of…Twitter. Tweets, Re-tweets and Hashtags…140 character conversations. You could actually have conversations with people like: David Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity and Breitbart himself before he died.
So what’s a tweet? It’s like sending a 140 character text message out into the universe for people to read. Your goal: to get people to “follow” you.
A Re-Tweet? Someone actually repeats what you said!
A Hashtag? This is when you make your tweet easy to find by using the “#” sign. Some examples:
- #tcot – true conservatives on twitter
- #ocra – organized conservative resistance alliance
- #teaparty
- #LNYHBT – let not your heart be troubled (from Hannity)
- #p2 – progressive 2.0
Well conservatives have been having some fun on twitter…umm at the expense of liberals and the President. *snicker*
An example: The White House put out a hashtag for people to respond to:
#SaySomethingGoodAboutObama.
Well…conservatives took it over and had some fun. Here are some of their responses:
- He’s good at raising taxes
- Something Good about Obama
- No
- He’s good at bowing to other world leaders
- He really rocks mom jeans
- He’s good at spending other people’s money
Pretty sure you can see where this is headed, liberals went nuts and started whining about “conservatives taking over”. The latest such whining comes from Comedy Central. Here’s a screen shot of the conversation from one of the whiners and Michelle Malkin. (on a side note…Michelle Malkin is one of the masters of twitter)
We’re glad that conservatives have discovered social media. You can find out what’s going on faster on twitter and facebook than you can on Fox News. It’s right there at your finger tips ~ on your smartphone, iPad, or notepad ~ Election returns, current events, the latest buzz. You can be an active participator or just a follower.
If you’ve never tried social media…give it a test drive. You’ll be amazed at how much you will learn, and how much fun it can be!
We’ll leave you with this hashtag: #2012EndOfAnError
